Tom Schirm Fish Carvings
All original fish sculptures are hand carved wood in a lifelike pose that are placed above a natural appearing stream bottom habitat that includes hand carved wood rocks and carved or natural driftwood. Each work of art has each individual fin ray, scale, tooth, and interior mouth detail carved or wood burned in. The rocks and driftwood are painted to represent an underwater scene in which the fish lives.
Taxidermy glass eyes are used to give added realism to the fish carvings. A finished hardwood base is added to complement and display each one of a kind sculpture.
The works of art are composed, carved, painted and assembled individually, and no two works are exactly alike. Each has the species name, scientific name, artist name, and number of the piece engraved on a plaque mounted on the base.
Tom specializes in freshwater fish. Trout species are very popular and most requested, as are some more common warm water game fish, such as walleye, bluegill and bass. However, other common species are possible to be ordered and carved.
Commissions are welcomed. If you are interested in an original carving, please contact Tom to order yours today. Upon agreeing on the species, composition, and size of the carving, a price will be negotiated.
A deposit of one third down is required when ordering, followed by one third midway through the project, with the balance due upon delivery.
